Diet: Carnivorous β prefers a varied diet including high quality pellets, frozen or live foods such as shrimp, crickets, worms, and small fish. Occasional treats of insects or crustaceans can also be offered.
Temperament: Semi aggressive and territorial, especially as it grows larger. Best kept in very large tanks with similarly sized, robust fish.
Tank Setup: Requires a very spacious tank, at least 250 gallons for a juvenile and larger as it matures. Provide open swimming space, a tightly fitting lid to prevent jumping, and subdued lighting. Efficient filtration and regular water changes are essential.
Compatibility: Suitable with other large, robust species that can tolerate its size and temperament. Avoid much smaller tank mates that could be seen as prey or very aggressive fish that may challenge it.
