About the Golden Climbing Perch
Name: Golden Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus β gold morph)
Max Size: Up to 12 inches
Water Parameters: pH 6.5-7.5, temperature 72-82Β°F, hardness 5-15 dGH
Diet: Omnivorous β enjoys a wide range of foods including pellets, flakes, live and frozen foods such as insects, worms, shrimp, and small fish. May also eat plant material and detritus in the wild.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive and territorial, especially as they mature. Best kept alone or with other large, robust fish that can hold their own.
Tank Setup: Requires a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, and dense plants. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as this species can breathe atmospheric air and may try to escape. Moderate water movement and strong filtration are recommended.
Compatibility: Best kept alone or with other large, peaceful-to-semi-aggressive species. Avoid smaller fish that could be viewed as food or more aggressive species that might provoke conflict.
Behavior: Intelligent and curious, the Golden Climbing Perch is capable of breathing air using its labyrinth organ and can survive out of water for short periods. It may become bold and interactive with its environment and keeper.
Fun Fact: The Climbing Perch is famous for its ability to "walk" short distances over land using its pectoral fins in search of new water sources. The golden morph is a selectively bred variety prized for its unique coloration and rarity in the aquarium hobby.
