Fun Fact: Despite its name, Giant Hairgrass isnβt actually βgiantββbut it does grow significantly taller than Dwarf Hairgrass, making it perfect for creating a grassy, meadow-like backdrop in aquariums. It sways beautifully in water currents, adding movement and texture.
Appearance: Long, thin, grass-like blades grow vertically in clumps. It forms a dense, flowing curtain when planted in groups, with a soft green color that complements nearly any aquascape.
Habitat: Native to North and South America, typically found in marshes, shallow ponds, and the margins of rivers and lakes.
Aquarium Use: Excellent for background planting in nature-style tanks, where it can mimic a natural grassland or wetland look. Also used to soften hardscape elements like rocks or wood.
Care: Very adaptable and undemanding. Prefers stable parameters and benefits from root tabs or a nutrient-rich base. High light and CO2 will result in faster spread and lusher growth.
Propagation: Propagates by runners that spread out from the base, gradually filling in large areas if conditions are favorable.
