Fun Fact: Despite often being called Subwassertang Moss, it is not actually a moss. It is a fern gametophyte that never develops into the typical leafy fern form under normal aquarium conditions, instead growing into beautiful tangled masses of translucent green foliage.
Appearance: Subwassertang produces thin, irregularly branching, ribbon-like green fronds. As it grows, the fronds overlap and intertwine to create soft, bushy clumps with a delicate appearance.
Aquarium Use: Excellent for shrimp tanks, breeding aquariums, and natural-style aquascapes. Its dense growth provides excellent shelter for baby shrimp and fish fry while creating plenty of surface area for biofilm and microorganisms to develop.
Propagation: Extremely easy to propagate. Simply separate a portion of the plant and place or attach it in another area of the aquarium. Even relatively small pieces can gradually develop into large clumps.
Note: Subwassertang does not need to be planted in substrate. It can be loosely wedged between rocks or driftwood or gently attached to hardscape until it establishes. Regular thinning helps prevent debris from accumulating inside large, dense clumps.
